BEFORE TREATMENT - Will I be able to use Invisalign?

I do work with Invisalign as well as other aesthetic orthodontic options. Invisalign is a great treatment method and gets great results. However, not every case can be treated with Invisalign and I'd need to see you for an initial exam to determine if you are a candidate and what a fair treatment fee would be. You should also be made aware of all the esthetic orthodontic alternatives before choosing to proceed with Invisalign, e.g. clarity brackets; veneers; or crowns. Some times with Invisalign I will need to use some other type of appliance either before or after the series of Invisalign Aligners.

In short, Invisalign is a series of removable appliances called Aligners. Incrementally, the Aligners move your teeth and straighten them. Since the Aligners are removable, this is both an advantage and disadvantage - depending on the patient. The patient must wear the Aligners at least 22 hours per day and this requires discipline. The main advantage is that the Aligners are not easily seen by your friends and family; and they can be removed for brushing and flossing.

More complicated and lengthy treatments may have higher fees associated with them. The lab fees for Invisalign are high and in US funds which makes the use of Invisalign costly in Canada. Typically, an Invisalign case will cost about 20% more than the use of traditional brackets and wires. After the Initial Exam appointment my staff would provide you with a Predetermination Form that you could send to you insurance carrier(s) and the insurance company would then write back to you explain your coverage. The insurance company does not tell us how to move your teeth or which appliances to use - you either have orthodontic coverage or not.

We have a $50 fee for the initial exam. This fee is put toward the total fee if you decide to go ahead with treatment. Some offices don't charge a fee for the initial exam, but we do since we take the initial exam very seriously and try to answer a lot of questions and not just tell the patient that they need orthodontic work. We also do a tour and try to make the new patient feel at home and comfortable.

You can book an initial exam appointment with me by calling my main office at 613-823-9899. My main office is in Barrhaven (south Nepean area) and I am there on Tuesdays (7:40 - 4:40) Wednesdays (12:00 - 7:00) and Thursdays (7:40 - 4:40) and Fridays (7:40 - 4:40).

Following the initial exam, the next appointment is a Records appointment (current photos, models, X-rays)- and then the next appointment is the Case Presentation appointment where we will talk in detail about your specific treatment and what you can expect. If we decide to proceed with using the Invisalign system, the next step would be to make your Invisalign impressions and then send these to the Invisalign lab in California. About one month later, we would get your Aligners back from Invisalign and you would start wearing them. I'd like to see you approximately every four to six weeks while you are in treatment.
